Paul J Best – Artist
Paul J Best’s work is principally focused on interpreting and expressing a sense of place. In a world of ever increasing globalisation where everything is moving towards homogeny, he seeks to express the unique quality of places… landscapes, seascapes and townscapes.
Paul has studied and qualified in Fine Art ( Painting ), Landscape Architecture and Urban Design and is a fellow of the Landscape Institute.
As a Landscape Architect Paul has designed and has had built some four dimensional ‘big art ‘on a large scale which have become memorable places but for Paul, painting remains the most immediate and expressive of all artistic practices. He is drawn to painting mainly landscapes and seascapes and now has paintings in collections across the UK and in America, Switzerland and Australia .He particularly like to work with texture and often use pastes and sometimes applies gold leaf. He mostly always incorporates reflective paints in the work to capture and reflect the light. He will usually combine the use of palette knife and soften this with brush work.
Paul remains inspired by the enduring impressionist masters: Turner, Klimt, Monet, Manet, Cezanne, Matisse, Pissaro and also the more contemporary landscape artists Mackintosh, Hitchens, Manrique, Heron, Rae … and he describes his paintings as broadly impressionistic.
Paul is always very pleased to take commissions. If you have an idea in mind for a particular space then please just contact Paul at firstname.lastname@example.org
