Rachel Alexander – Artist
Rachel Alexander has a passion for toys and the stories they tell. She noticed that very few artists create toy portraits, so the idea for ToyPinx, an entirely different approach to portraiture, was born.
Rachel applies her experience as a professional botanical illustrator to meticulously depict textures and colours. She faithfully records every loose thread, floppy chewed ear or battered bald patch as evidence of a lifelong relationship between toy and best friend.
Rachel is also a qualified and experienced teacher and tutor. She hosts workshops and craft sessions and offers personal tuition for anyone who has the mistaken belief that they cannot draw or paint. She firmly believes that everyone has the capacity to express themselves creatively and she will show you how to get thoughts onto paper.
Rachel lives with her husband and two daughters near the River Hamble and when she isn’t wearing her mum or artist or teacher’s hat, she loves to be out on the water, usually in her wet weather gear! She has a sketchbook with her at all times: she can spot fascinating textures or colours even when it is pouring with rain. And her passion for drawing is as strong as her love for toys.
Rachel’s ToyPinx portraits are commissioned via her website or Facebook page. A portfolio of drawings, paintings and greetings cards are also available for purchase.
Rachel will also be demonstrating at our Preview Evening this year. If you would like to see her in action you can purchase tickets for the Preview Evening from the office at Titchfield Community Centre.
